What we do

A small press, a long horizon.

We publish six to eight titles a year. Each one is edited slowly, designed by hand, printed on paper we chose ourselves, and sent into the world with the belief that a book is a promise between a writer and a reader.

01 / Editorial

Patient, line-level editing

Our editors work with authors for a year or longer. We believe the second draft is where a book actually begins — and the seventh is where it becomes a book worth keeping.

02 / Design

Objects made to last

Cloth-bound hardcovers, French flaps, letterpress endpapers. Every title on our list is built to sit on a shelf for a lifetime, not a season.

03 / Readers

A community, not a market

Our subscribers receive each new title six weeks before general release, along with a printed letter from the author. It's the closest thing we know to a literary neighborhood.

The house on Brannon Avenue

Where our books are made.

Our office sits in a restored 1912 clapboard building near downtown Jacksonville. The front room is a working library open to authors, booksellers and readers by appointment. The back is where manuscripts become books — a long oak table, a proof press from 1948, and a wall of every title we've ever published.

Danny Lunsford, our founder, still reads every submission that arrives here. It is slower than the industry standard. We think that is the point.
